Still Developing
A photographer’s unpolished diary — the wins, the misses, and the quiet in-betweens.
Hey —
I’m writing this casually on my couch after pouring a cup of decaf—because caffeine at this hour is a mistake—and staring at my camera gear scattered across the coffee table. I’ve been talking about starting a newsletter for weeks, but tonight finally felt like the right time to begin.
So, here it is.
I’m not here to pitch tricks or run through gear specs (though I might slip in a few notes now and then). What I really want is a space to track what I’m going through as a photographer—not just the good stuff, but the frustrating missed shots, the hours spent editing images that go nowhere, the weird feeling of falling in love with a subject one day and resenting the backlight the next.
I’ve been chasing this creative itch for a while, and it's been a rollercoaster—full of real warmth, sudden doubts, and those tiny wins that make me think, maybe I’m onto something. And then there are the days I feel like I’ve made zero progress, like I’m just fumbling around.
That’s the journey I want to share here. A mix of things I’m working on, reflections from a recent shoot, a frame or two that captured something real—or didn’t. Sometimes I’ll ramble. I might bring up a frustration (“not getting paid on time—and it rained…and I lost half the roll”). Other times, I’ll share something joyful (“I actually captured a street portrait that made me smile”).
I want you to feel like you’re reading something real—like an entry you’d scribble down at the end of a messy day. Not a polished “how-to” manual. Not a bullet-pointed checklist. Just a diary moment.
If you’ve ever felt that shy glow when a photo finally comes together. Or if you’ve ever sat behind a laptop trying to figure out why your edits just don’t feel right—then welcome. You’re in good company.
Thanks for being here, reading this first post. I don’t know what the next entry will look like—but I’m looking forward to finding out.
Until next time,
Vince
